Should the Sub Tag <imagesize/> be defined as required. I don't think any
<subtag/> and the subtag attribute group be required. There should be default
values for subtag attributes.

If the <imagesize/> is not defined than the custom interface should only be
offered in embedded and (with a button, not combobox ) popup mode.

Currently the <imagesize/> must be defined for the combobox list to be used.

Check for RC1, this sounds like a bug ... or at least a reasonable way of
handling a common situation.
